Does your soul need reviving?
The law of The Lord is perfect, reviving the soul, the Psalmist writes in Psalm 19. Have you ever thought about the need to revive your soul? It sure made me think. We are made up of body, mind/soul and spirit. We are very good at looking after our body, but how good are we at looking after our soul?
And how do we look after our soul or mind? We look after it by meditating and feeding on God’s Word daily. This will result in praising God for Who He is and what He has done for us. The Westminster catechism tells us that ‘the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever’. Our souls are reaching for praise. God has created us to praise Him and Jesus is the Source of our praise.
I belong to a choir and love praising the Lord through Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual songs. There is something about singing with others in our various parts which all blend together to make a joyful noise to The Lord. When we sing, our spirits are lifted and God is praised. Worship through song encourages others and soothes their souls. It is such a privilege to be able to minister in song to others.
I will never forget Christmas 1986. I had met an alcoholic through doing Meals on Wheels. He had been deserted by his wife and 7 children due to his dependence on Alcohol. He lived alone in a disheveled state. My friend and I began to minister to him on our weekly visits.
He had nowhere to go for Christmas so I invited him to come for dinner and church with us. He agreed, and as we walked into church and he heard the singing, John wept.
It was the start of John’s conversion and what a privilege to have been a part of that.
Awake my soul and sing, of Him who died for me!
