On the move

On January 7 we left from Geelong, Victoria in our 6.4 meter caravan, our home on wheels. We were going to be Grey Nomads for as long as it took to discover this great land of ours. We are both retired  pensioners and couldn't wait to become Grey Nomads. We had heard and read so much about this special breed of people who were living the dream.

So after having packed up our house and stored our 'stuff' at our daughters dairy farm we took off for the great outdoors. We followed the Victorian coast to Adelaide where we stayed for six weeks with one of our daughters in McClarenvale.
We then travelled the Eyre Peninsula with our oldest daughter and her husband for two weeks. We parted ways at Port Augusta and headed through the middle of Australia via Ayers Rock to Darwin. We were both amazed at the seemingly endless straight roads and the changing vegetation. We also had never seen so much road kill as we travelled on the Stuart Highway. We loved watching the wedge tailed eagles, kites and crows fly away as our rig approached them.
Next stop was Litchfield National Park which we had heard and seen so much about. We enjoyed a swim in Florence Falls as it was still quite warm and humid in May.
It was great to be able to stay on my nephew's front yard for 3 weeks as caravan prices in Darwin are between $30 and $40 per night. We had never been to Darwin before so we had a good time discovering its history from several museums we visited.
Kakadu was next on our itinerary and we were in awe of our Creator who created this magnificent park for us to enjoy. It is large in scale compared to Litchfield with a variety of vegetation from wetlands to forests and rocky mountains. When we climbed up to its highest   rocky outcrop which we gave us a 360 degree view of Kakadu we stood in awe and the words of the song; 'How great is our God', came to mind.

We drove down to Three Ways and on to Townsville via the Overlander Way. We stayed in Freecamps and behind motels and large service stations. We have met some lovely Grey Nomads along the way from whom we have learned where to go and where not to. 
We are now over 5 months into our 8 month trip and we have travelled over 10,000 kms.
We are still living the dream and look forward to what's around the next bend in the road or what the next town has in store. It has been and still is one long holiday.

We have lived in our shorts for 5 months now and love the warmer weather. The nights are cooler now and great for sleeping. We love each others company and enjoy the same things. We have been married for over 46 years and we look forward to what God has in store for us in our retirement as we know our heavenly Father is leading and guiding us on
this exciting journey.
